New Track Project
Bishop Fenwick High School Announces New Track Project
May 6, 2022
Bishop Fenwick High School Principal and CEO Blane Collision has announced plans to replace all of the Fenwick athletic track and field surfaces, as well as the fencing surrounding the soccer/lacrosse field. The project is expected to start in early May.
The plans include replacing the eight-lane track surface; the high jump surface; the pole vault runway, vault, and landing surface; the long jump runway and pit; the discus/hammer throwing pit; and the fence surrounding the track and soccer/lacrosse field with a new vinyl-coated chain link fence. The asphalt surrounding the track will also be extended to the new fence to help improve safety and the longevity of the track.
Over the years, the track surfaces have deteriorated. “This is a capital project that we have anticipated for the last few years as the track has been deteriorating, and is in need of improvement for competition and safety,” said Principal/CEO Blane Collison. Collison added, “Fenwick’s budget will cover the expense of the entire project through the allocation of capital funds in our building and grounds project budget.”
“This is a very exciting time for our school and community,” said Athletic Director Kyle Sasala. “It is a much-needed improvement for our school and our track team. We are always striving to give the best to our students and athletes, and we believe this is a nice upgrade for our teams.”
This project will also include improved drainage in areas around the track, along with new fencing and exterior improvements. It will serve Fenwick’s track and field program, as well as Fenwick’s physical education classes and multiple sports teams who use the track for training purposes. “We’re excited for the work to be completed this summer in time to have our students using a much-improved surface for their training, conditioning, and competition needs,” said Collison.
The project should be completed in the beginning of August. We anticipate very little disruption to the larger Fenwick community as the majority of the construction will occur during the summer months. The construction project should have no impact on the soccer/lacrosse field. Likewise, there will be no impact on summer camps; fencing will be installed around construction areas to ensure the safety of our young athletes.
The Kleingers Group is managing the project and Westside Paving is the contractor.
Thank you for your patience during this project, and for the many ways that you support our Fenwick community. We are confident that this project will help us continue to offer exceptional opportunities for current and future students.
In conclusion, Sasala said, “This is definitely an exciting time to be here at Fenwick.”
