Welcome Back From Assistant Principal Umberg!

Greetings

August is here, and soon we will begin our 2017-18 school year. Welcome to all our new Fenwick families, and welcome back to our returning families.  The 2017-18 academic year looks to be exciting!

I wanted to take this chance just to give some information/reminders prior to the start of school:

PlusPortals: Fenwick will no longer be using Edline or its connected gradebook component.  Instead, we have implemented a Rediker based product.  We have partnered with Rediker for over 20 years with our data management system and will now utilize their PlusPortals (“Portals”) system for communication with families.  Portals is an interactive hub where communication between teachers and the families will be streamlined—this will include grades, assignments/tests, attendance reports, discipline reports, and communication between teachers and families. This is our primary communication when it comes to assignments, grades, attendance and discipline.  PLEASE check it daily!  Log-in information will be emailed to families the week of August 7th using the email address we have one file.

Handbooks: The Student/Parent Handbook has gone digital!  The handbook will be pre-loaded on to all student Surface Pro devices for grades 9-11.  It will also be available in Portals and on the Fenwick website.  Below are some highlights and/or updates from the handbook:

Cafeteria/Lunch: Students purchasing lunch through the cafeteria must pay with cash.  Credits will not be issued this year.

Cell Phones: Students are not permitted to use their cell phone during school hours!  Parents, please contact the main office if you need to get information to your student during school hours. Cell phones will be confiscated during school hours if caught using them, with a 3 demerit penalty.  Subsequent offenses will include demerits AND a $20 fine.

Uniform Policy: As was announced in early 2017, for the 2017-18 school year students will be required to wear a collared uniform shirt (polo or oxford) at all times—this includes under the uniform sweatshirts.  Also announced at that time, uniform bottoms can now be purchased through Land’s End (specific styles indicated in the handbook) as well as Educational Outfitters.  Spirit Days—reminder that not all items purchased through the Falcon Fan Store, teams or clubs are acceptable on Spirit Days.  Please see specific information in the Uniform Policy for details.

Planner: With the handbook going digital, we will not have a printed daily planner.  Students in grades 9-11 are encouraged to utilize Outlook in the Microsoft Office 365 suite to help them organize assignments and appointments. The school has purchased basic school day planners for those seniors who wish to have one.  Please stop by the main office.  We will provide each senior with ONE printed planner.

I am looking forward to a great year.  As always, live out the Talons in everything you say and do!
