Falcon Talons

Living the Talons

The Fenwick community puts a great deal of importance on student formation in the Falcon Talons: Faith, Compassion, Integrity, and Service.

These Talons are emphasized consistently to our students in every situation, from learning in the classroom, to retreats, to enforcing school rules. The Falcon Talons give a Fenwick education and the Fenwick community a unique and special culture, focused on Gospel values and living authentic Christian lives.

Faith

Students of Bishop Fenwick grow and are empowered in their faith through their Religion curriculum which includes religion electives for seniors such as Pastoral Theology and Environmental Ethics, celebrating the Sacraments as a class and whole school, retreat programs, faith activities of Flock Block and school prayer including a student intention from each grade every day.

  • “Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
  • “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will act” (Psalm 37:5).
  • “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Compassion

Students’ senses of compassion are encouraged and insight and growth from that compassion are taken to heart through activities such as junior retreat and Kairos, Shantytown, field day (through collaboration with classmates, celebrating each others’ gifts and talents) and Flock Blocks. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the March for Life to show compassion for all human life.

  • “Finally, all of you, be of one mind, sympathetic, loving toward one another, compassionate, humble” (1 Peter 3:8).
  • “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience” (Colossians 3:12).
  • “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and God of all encouragement” (2 Corinthians 1:3).

Integrity

Students take ownership of their integrity through the school culture of being held to the highest standard of always doing what is right, seen in Bishop Fenwick’s discipline policies, class structures, and all faculty and staff striving to see the best in every student and calling them to live up to that potential. Students also participate in activities to get them thinking about integrity during freshman retreat and Flock Blocks.

  • “Better to be poor and walk in integrity than rich and crooked in one’s ways” (Proverbs 28:6).
  • “All you need say is ‘Yes’ if you mean yes, ‘No’ if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the evil one” (Matthew 5:37).
  • “…[show] yourself as a model of good deeds in every respect, with integrity in your teaching [and] dignity…” (Titus 2:7).

Service

Students participate in service activities throughout their time at Bishop Fenwick in order to prepare them for a lifetime of giving back to the Kingdom of God. They do this through the service program, in which freshmen have multiple days of service with their class, sophomores and juniors serve both the Fenwick and larger communities and seniors commit to serving a nonprofit agency for the year. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a summer mission trip, Shantytown retreat, Talon Thursday and leadership roles for underclass retreats and programs.

  • “Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, ‘If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all’” (Mark 9:35).
  • "As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Peter 4:10).
  • “If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14).
